6 Ways to Feel Comfortable in a New City

When you are moving to a new city it is very important that you do all that you can to settle in as quickly as possible. The first thing that you will need to do is to find a place to stay.

Fully furnished condos are great because you will not need to move all of your possessions across the country and you will have a place ready to move in the moment you arrive. This can be a little bit of a whirlwind but by taking a deep breath you will have a close circle of friends and know the new city like the back of your hand in no time.

1. Hang out with coworkers after hours

If you are working in the new city that you should start off with a few after work drinks to get your social circle off to the right start. As you are new to the city you will find that the conversation flows really well as you will have lots of questions and your new colleagues will have lots of opinions about the best sushi place or gym in the local area. Your colleagues will be a gold mine of information that you can use to your advantage.

2. Use apps to meet people in the area

If you are looking to meet new people in your city, there is a good chance that the city is also full of people who are looking to meet new people as well. Apps like Tinder and Bumble are great ways to meet people who have romance on their minds, but many don’t know that there are also settings on these apps for meeting people for friendship alone. You should always be careful when meeting up with anyone online, but these tools should be considered if you are looking to expand your social circle beyond your beautiful fully furnished condo.

3. Common areas at work are a great place to strike up a conversation

Just like you would do at after work drinks you can strike up a conversation with a colleague or two around the water cooler or over lunch. This can be a great way to find people in the area that have shared interests and possibly start to develop a friendship outside of the work environment.

4. Volunteering

There are many opportunities to volunteer in any town or city. This can be anything from helping to support a local charity to sports events and hospitals. You will be expanding your social circle and also meeting people from all walks of life. This can be a great way to meet people outside of work in a natural way that doesn’t seem too forced. Non-work friends are very important as they will give you a chance to talk about other topics.

5. Facebook and Google are your friends

These are great places for you to find out a lot about local events, and social groups that you could join. This could be anything from a local hockey team to a beer tasting tour. No matter what your interests are you will be able to find some sort of group or association to join.

6. Join a book club

This is a great, low-pressure example of a social group that will meet regularly. The best part about groups like these is that you will be able to eventually have your turn at hosting. This means that you will be able to make your new condo feel even more homey with the sound of laughter and conversation.
